Governance
Gildan works to ensure that our advocacy priorities are regularly reviewed and presented to the executive management team, with updates provided to the Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility Committee of our Board of Directors, as necessary.
Accountability for the Company’s advocacy efforts rests with the Vice-President of Commodities, Customs, and Trade Compliance. This responsibility is supported through collaboration with external firms with expertise in governmental affairs and advocacy.
Approach
We engage in public policy discussions primarily around trade issues by communicating information to government officials and policymakers in Canada, the United States, and all other significant jurisdictions where we have operations. We also work with industry and trade associations that represent the apparel industry and business community.
In regions where we maintain significant manufacturing operations, we actively engage, whenever possible, with government representatives on key environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics. These include economic development, human rights, and climate change, which align with our commitment to fostering sustainable and responsible business practices. Our engagement takes various forms, including direct discussions, participation in forums, and collaborative initiatives, either independently as Gildan or through our membership in industry associations.
